Keerthana was introduced to the divine art of Bharatanatyam by her parents at the tender age of four, laying the foundation for a lifelong devotion to this classical dance form. She began her initial training under the guidance of the Late Guru Padmini Rao at Ponnaiah Lalitha Kala Nikethana in Bengaluru. The passing of her first guru marked a poignant transition in her dance journey, leading her to continue her training with Guru Smt. Darshini Manjunath, a dedicated student of Guru Padmini Rao.
Under the tutelage of Guru Smt. Darshini Manjunath, Keerthana completed her Junior grade examination from the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB). Her association with Nritya Disha Trust, run by Smt. Darshini Manjunath, provided her the opportunity to perform in various parts of the world, enriching her experience and exposure to the global stage.
Advanced Training and Achievements
To delve deeper into the nuances of Bharatanatyam, Keerthana currently seeks guidance from Guru Smt. Rekha Jagadish in Bangalore. Her unwavering dedication and rigorous practice led her to complete the prestigious Vidwath level examination in Bharatanatyam conducted by the KSEEB with Distinction. This accomplishment stands as a testament to her exceptional skill and deep understanding of the art form.
Throughout her schooling and beyond, Keerthana has graced both national and international stages with her captivating performances. Notable among her international performances are her appearances in London, Malaysia, and Thailand, where she showcased the rich heritage of Bharatanatyam to diverse audiences.
Nattuvangam Training
In addition to her prowess in Bharatanatyam, Keerthana is also being trained in the intricate art of Nattuvangam under the guidance of Guru Vidwan Bhavani Shankar, an internationally recognized Mrudangist and Nattuvanar. This training enhances her versatility and deepens her understanding of the rhythmic complexities in dance recitals.
Establishment of Kalaalayam Samstha
Keerthana’s passion for Bharatanatyam and her desire to share this divine art form with others led her to establish "Kalaalayam Samstha," a temple of art, in 2015 on Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru. This classical dance class is dedicated to training students exclusively in Bharatanatyam, nurturing new talents, and preserving the rich cultural heritage of this ancient dance form.
